Wrestler DeLong signs with OCUAdam DeLong was the second El Reno wrestler to sign a letter of intent when he inked with Oklahoma City University last week. DeLong will join former Indians head coach Archie Randall, who took over at Oklahoma City after stepping down following last year. Senior Chris Hacker signed with the University of Nebraska earlier this month after verbally committing to the Cornhuskers in October. A two-time state champion, DeLong will enter his senior year with an 85-22 overall record. He won state championships as a freshman at 103 pounds and again as a junior at 125. DeLong finished in fourth place at 112 pounds as a sophomore. “I just felt comfortable with my decision since my former high school coach is there,” DeLong said. “I got a good scholarship to go there.” First-year El Reno head coach Bobby Miller gets DeLong’s services for one more year. DeLong and Hacker are the only two current Indian grapplers on the roster who have won state championships. “I think he made a smart choice,” Miller said of DeLong’s decision. “They have a great coaching staff there with coach Randall and Tyrone Lewis. “He is going to be in a good atmosphere with an up and coming program. He gets to get on board with something that’s pretty new and gets to be apart of building that program. “The toughness of the program won’t bother him because he’s been around coach Randall. Oklahoma City is a great school and a great place to go get an education.” |
